Liverpool now backed seal “fantastic deal” for Euro 2024 star; he’s “keen” on joining

**Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi is “keen” on completing a move to Liverpool this summer, according to former scout Keith Wyness.**

With Jarell Quansah set to join Bayer Leverkusen, a new central defender will be required for the Reds before next season gets underway.

Guehi has emerged as a leading option to come in, especially with Palace attempting to sign Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande, and now Kyness has talked up the transfer in an interview with [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/liverpool-expected-to-complete-frightening-signing-it-will-go-through/).

“It would be a no-brainer for them (Liverpool) if they can get hold of him, and all the noises coming out of the Marc Guehi camp are that he’s keen to go,” Wyness said.

“I think it’s a fantastic deal. I think Palace also recognise that I think he’s got just another year left on his contract. So they’d like to cash in as well. All parties could be very happy.

“If you remember the days when Virgil van Dijk came from Southampton, he was a big-money signing at the time, but he’s proven to be a superb buy. He’s done really well. I think he and Guehi, if they can keep fit, would be fantastic.

“I’m frightened to say it, but yes, it’s going to be a good signing for Liverpool and I think it will go through.”

**Can Guehi be Van Dijk’s eventual replacement at Liverpool?**

--------------------------------------------------------------

Guehi stands out as a strong choice for Liverpool this summer, having impressed so much for England at Euro 2024 last summer, being praised by [Micah Richards](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c9992yv5prlo):

_“He was very calm and composed. It must be daunting to enter your first major tournament at times, but he did not show it at all.”_

Guehi is now a proven Premier League and international player, and would be a definite upgrade on Quansah, but can he be Virgil van Dijk’s long-term successor?

Frankly, it is going to be almost impossible for anyone to replace the legendary Dutchman, given his status as one of the best centre-backs of all time, but at 24, the Palace ace will have plenty of time to prove his worth and mature as a player.
