Leeds United could be set to reignite their interest in Sheffield United gem Gustavo Hamer this summer.
The Whites are preparing to make the jump back up to the Premier League, and although bringing in top-flight experience should be a major priority for Daniel Farke and Co., that shouldn’t mean they don’t still have one eye on the Championship for potential signings.
Leeds saw a bid for Hamer knocked back by Sheffield United last summer, and with the offer of top-level football now on the table, they look set to attempt to convince him to switch to West Yorkshire once again.
Farke’s side have been linked with several new additions following their promotion, but it could be a relatively familiar face who dominates the talk surrounding them this summer.

Graham Smyth brands Hamer transfer ‘one to watch’
Leeds’ interest in Hamer has resurfaced recently, but it has previously been suggested that there is no urgency on the Dutchman’s part to force a move away from Bramall Lane.

However, the Blades have recently undergone a managerial change, with Ruben Selles replacing Chris Wilder, and the new boss has delivered a stark admission about the possibility of his keeping hold of Hamer.
“[Hamer] is a Sheffield United player and I want him to be a Sheffield United player when the market closes,” Selles said on Wednesday (25 June).
“Obviously I cannot control what happens in the future because the market is so fluid and dynamic but my intention is to keep him as one of our key players.”
The Spanish chief’s latest statements mean that a deal still seems unlikely for Leeds, but the YEP’s chief football writer Graham Smyth has still referred to Leeds’ chase of Hamer as “one to watch” for the remainder of the summer.
Hamer would be an excellent addition for Leeds
There is no doubt about the fact that Leeds need to add greater depth in attacking areas if they are to compete for survival, and signing Hamer would be a surefire way of bringing proven quality into their ranks.

The midfielder was named as the Championship’s Player of the Year last term, after he notched 10 league goals and eight assists for the defeated play-off finalists. As far as second-tier football is concerned, there is arguably no better creator in the division.
His previous stint in the Premier League may have gone disastrously wrong for the Blades, but the Dutchman was one of the few bright sparks, and proved that he was undoubtedly capable of playing at the top level.
At 28, the former Coventry City man is running out of time if he wants to get another shot at the top-flight, and a move to Elland Road this summer could be the perfect way of ensuring he gets that shot.
