The Philadelphia 76ers signed Paul George to a four-year, $211 million contract last offseason, hoping he could be the missing piece that helps Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey reach the NBA Finals. However, multiple injuries limited the six-time All-NBA selection to just 41 games.
Needless to say, PG-13 didn’t have the impact 76ers fans expected in his first season. Now, as the team prepares to use the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft tonight, some are wondering if George could be on the move too.
According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, trade rumors involving George have really heated up in the past 24 hours, to the point where a deal could be in play tonight.
“I don’t know what Philadelphia is going to do here. Do they just sit on that draft pick and take it? Or do they try to package it? Is Paul George in play? I’ve heard some of that over the last 24 hours—that they could be looking to trade back with Paul George to do something there.”
Chris Mannix on Paul George
George is a nine-time All-Star, but he’s also a 35-year-old who has dealt with numerous injuries over the past few seasons. As much upside as he has as a player who’s averaged 20.6 points per game in his career, George does come with a certain amount of risk, especially as someone who has a $51.6 million cap hit in 2025.
Plus, George brings a lot of star power wherever he goes. Contending teams will likely check in on his trade market, hoping the Sixers are willing to sell low on a player who’s shown an ability to play at an All-NBA level.
