RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško has sent Arsenal fans into overdrive after transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Slovenian forward began following the Gunners’ official Instagram account on Monday. The social media activity has fuelled fresh speculation that Arsenal are edging closer to signing the 22-year-old, one of their top targets this summer.
Romano broke the news via X on Wednesday, posting: “New social media hint by Benjamin Šeško as the striker has started following Arsenal on Instagram today.” The development follows weeks of mounting reports that Arsenal have made Šeško their priority striker signing, ahead of other options including Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres.
Arsenal are keen to reinforce their frontline after an injury-hit 2024/25 campaign left Mikel Arteta without consistent firepower from Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz. The Gunners’ interest in Šeško first gained serious traction in late May, when Romano revealed that the club had opened “concrete talks” with both RB Leipzig and the player’s representatives.

While initial reports cited a €100 million release clause in Šeško’s contract, negotiations have indicated Leipzig could accept closer to £84 million, especially after missing out on Champions League football for next season.

Šeško’s agent, Elvis Basanović, offered some insight into the transfer saga in a June 18 interview with GiveMeSport, stating: “We will never force or blackmail Leipzig. We do things in the right way or don’t do them.” He stressed that the player is focused on the right project, not competing with others like Gyökeres: “If we change clubs, it will be a step forward. Benjamin is not a player who is afraid of competition.”
Despite Basanović’s words, reports on the transfer’s status remain mixed. Slovenian outlet Ekipa dismissed claims of a personal agreement with Arsenal as “premature” and “fake,” though they confirmed ongoing discussions. Romano, however, reported on June 6 that talks were “advancing well,” even if a final agreement was not yet imminent.

Šeško enjoyed another impressive season at Leipzig, scoring 18 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, he offers a unique aerial presence—an attribute Arteta is said to value against low-block defences. His international record is also promising, with 16 goals in 41 caps for Slovenia. Although he extended his Leipzig deal until 2029, a “gentleman’s agreement” reportedly allows him to leave in 2025 or 2026, giving Arsenal renewed hope after failing to land him last year.

The striker’s Instagram activity has only intensified fan speculation. One X user, @ArsenalBuzz, posted: “Šeško following Arsenal on IG? That’s not just a hint, it’s a billboard! #WelcomeSesko.” Others, like @GoonerTalk, urged caution: “Love the excitement, but let’s wait for the official announcement. Instagram follows don’t sign contracts.”
Arsenal have already had a busy summer window, securing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for £51.2 million and finalising a £5 million deal for Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Šeško would represent a marquee addition, though some complications remain. According to football.london, the player is seeking a release clause in any Arsenal contract that would be 20% higher than the fee paid, a demand viewed as “unusual” in Premier League negotiations.
RB Leipzig, for their part, continue to hold firm. Romano previously reported in January that a winter exit was “highly unlikely” due to Leipzig’s injury concerns and the collapse of Noah Okafor’s move. But with the summer window now open, the timing may finally be right for Arsenal to land the striker Arteta has long admired.
Whether the Instagram follow proves to be a calculated signal or mere coincidence, it’s clear that all eyes are now on Šeško as Arsenal’s striker search reaches a crucial stage.
