Burnley sign Germany Under-20 keeper Weiss

Burnley have signed goalkeeper Max Weiss from Karlsruher fora reported fee of five million euros (£4.3m).

The 21-year-old, who has appeared for Germany Under-20s, has signed a four-year deal and is the Clarets' first signing of the summer.

Weiss, who was an ever present last term as he helped the Bundesliga.2 side to an eighth-placed finish, said: "I'm really excited to be here. It's an amazing club with a big ambition.

"All the conversations I have had with people from here have been so good and very positive."

As Burnley prepare for a return to the English top flight, media reports have linked their first-choice goalkeeper James Trafford with a move away from Turf Moor.

Burnley travel to Tottenham Hotspur for their opening Premier League game of the season on Saturday, 16 August (15:00 BST).
