Lewis Hall injury latest as Newcastle United star tackles three-month setback

Lewis Hall’s season was cut short after suffering a foot injury against Liverpool but he is on the mend ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

Lewis Hall is motivated to return for Newcastle United before the start of pre-season as he reflected on his cruel injury journey.

The Toon youngster was arguably Newcastle’s most improved player last season before a foot injury curtailed his season. Hall suffered the setback during February’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool - viewed as the precursor to the famous Carabao Cup final.

Eddie Howe eased the 20-year-old into St James’ Park life during his debut campaign - a period he has since described as difficult. However, the patience paid off as Hall impressed once establishing himself in the team last season.

The left-back - who earned his maiden England caps at the back end of last year - was forced to watch the Wembley heroics from home after undergoing surgery. Hailing from a family of Newcastle fans, the setback was brutal - especially as he played every game leading up to the final.

"The first few weeks especially were incredibly hard, with the final and stuff like that,” Hall told the club website. “I played in all the games beforehand, and to miss that final. I was obviously buzzing for the club, for everyone, but to not be there to celebrate...

“It's not so much that I wasn't on the pitch, but to not be there to celebrate, that was probably the lowest point I've had in a long time. I was sitting at home watching. That was difficult.”

Lewis Hall persuaded dad to watch Carabao Cup final

"I know how much my dad loves the club,” Hall added. “He was adamant that he didn't want to go to the final but I said to him 'You haven't seen your club win a trophy before, even though I'm not playing, I want you to go’.

"You have good and bad days. Some days you feel really positive and then other days, on a matchday, for example, I'll be there watching and I feel like I'm missing out. There's so many different things that come into it, so to be back outside and know that I can see the end of the road is such a good feeling."

Hall is back running on the grass and has been being put through his paces at the club’s Benton base. With a Champions League campaign to look forward to, the youngster is as motivated as ever to return on top form - and prove his worth once again.

“There are so many things to look forward to like the Champions League, international stuff hopefully, and just the fact that I've not played in so long,” Hall said. “It's hard to explain - I felt so much support from people at the club but, in a sense, you almost feel like sometimes you get forgotten about a little bit, even though I only missed 11 league games.

"It makes me want to come back and sort of prove a point again, and show everyone what I can bring back to the team. I want to show people what I was doing before I was injured and, if anything, come back a better, stronger player for it. I can't wait."
