Manchester United's summer transfer business has hit a little bit of a lull following a chaotic start. Ruben Amorim's side completed their first signing on the first day of the window, with Matheus Cunha making the blockbuster £62.5million transfer in from Wolves on June 1.

Since, there has been rumours about a move for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, and while talks are advancing, a deal has not yet been completed. The same can be said about Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres, though the Swede's preference, at this stage, is on a move to Arsenal.

Elsewhere, United are in the market for midfield reinforcements and Wilfred Ndidi has emerged as a surprise potential target following Leicester City's relegation to the Championship. The Nigerian has an abundance of experience at the top level, having played 230 matches in the Premier League.

With this in mind, Manchester Evening News has taken a look at the latest around a move for Ndidi...

Ndidi interest

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United are showing interest in Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

The Nigerian is available for a bargain fee this summer after the Foxes were relegated from the Premier League. The report adds that Everton are also keen and both clubs expressed an interest in Ndidi last summer, when they had the chance to sign him on a free transfer.

Instead, Ndidi signed a new three-year contract extension to remain with Leicester following their Championship title win. The deal included a £9million release clause if the Foxes were relegated back to the second tier.

Expected to leave

Wilfred Ndidi is 'expected' to leave Leicester during the summer transfer window. That's according to Nigerian outlet Punch, who report that the midfielder is set to depart the Foxes after relegation to the Championship.

Ndidi, who had been linked with a move to Barcelona, Marseille and Galatasaray among others last summer, has made over 300 appearances for Leicester but his time in the East Midlands is coming to an end.

Van Nistelrooy on Ndidi

Speaking back in January, Leicester head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy provided an update on Ndidi's future after he was linked with a winter move to Ligue 1 side Monaco.

When asked if he would be willing to let Ndidi go, Van Nistelrooy said: "No, of course not. Wilfred is a key player and person in the squad and in the club and I’m glad he is nearly there to help the team again.

"We know how much we’ve missed him and we know we need him. Wilf is key in the coming months, a key part of this team that can get us out of this situation."
