TBR Football can now exclusively reveal what Liverpool think of Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko as the hunt to sign a new striker continues.
Richard Hughes – Director of Football at Anfield – is looking for a new No.9 in preparation of Darwin Nunez leaving Liverpool this summer.
TBR Football understand Liverpool are ready to swoop for Alexander Isak if contract talks with Newcastle United hit a wall, while the Reds have also held talks over Hugo Ekitike – the Eintracht Frankfurt talisman.
However, there has been little mention of Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko – both of whom Arsenal are considering – but TBR Football‘s Chief Correspondent Graeme Bailey can now share what those at Anfield think of the pair.
Liverpool are aware of Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres situations
We understand Liverpool are not entirely discounting a swoop for either the Sporting CP No.9 or the RB Leipzig No.30 this summer – although Isak is the priority striker target.
Bailey states: “Liverpool are aware of him (Gyokeres) for sure, but he hasn’t really come up in recruitment conversations much.
“I wouldn’t say for certain that they are not in the mix. They (Liverpool) have briefed to say they know the striker market, so I think that tells us they are keeping tabs on it, like with Sesko too.”
Gyokeres remarkably scored 54 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions last season, with Sesko netting 21 goals in 45 games.
Arsenal have a Viktor Gyokeres fear inspired by Liverpool
As aforesaid, Arsenal are also interested in the Swede, but the Gunners have a concern about the Sporting CP talisman which is inspired by the signing of Nunez.
TBR Football understand Arsenal are wary of Gyokeres being able to replicate his goalscoring heroics in the Premier League, given the difference in quality between England’s leading division and the Primeira Liga.
Nunez scored 32 goals and provided 14 assists in 57 Primeira Liga outings for Benfica before his £85m move to Liverpool in June 2022, but the Uruguay international has struggled to match those heights in England, scoring just 25 goals in 95 Premier League appearances.
Evidently, there is a stark difference in quality between English football and Portuguese football.
