The gang at Yahoo Sports, keyed by our friend Jori Epstein, does an outstanding and serious-minded job of covering the NFL. So ...
It must be a bit unsettling for fans of the New York Giants to see that a key "minicamp takeaway'' was posed as a question that can only be characterized as "incendiary.''
Yahoo writes ...
Will The Giants Ruin Jaxson Dart?
If that actually happens? It will be a violation of everything that coach Brian Daboll stands for, an offense to his football reason for being, and malpractice of the firing sort.
So ... it won't happen.
Right?
In signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, the Giants - well before the NFL Draft - ensured that their quarterback play would be better than it was in the 2024 season, when Daniel Jones and the offense crumbled together.
And then came first-round quarterback Jaxson Dart and a long-term plan ... and one that somw might be accelerated sooner than many think.
Is a redshirt season best?
Is throwing him into the deep end best?
There are no automatically right answers here.
For sure, they don't have to feel desperate to play Dart with Wilson here – as the vet is almost certain to start the year with the first team.
Maybe they could play Dart from a position of strength?
Our colleague Ian Rapoport of NFL Network makes a notable and insightful prediction on the subject.
"You listen to everything Brian Daboll says, you get an understanding of how far along Jaxson Dart is, and where you think he’s going to go," he said. "It’s clearly a matter of 'when,' not 'if."
That's fine. But the "when'' needs to happen in a way that is best for the care and feeding and maturation of Jaxson Dart. Daboll knows this. ... as his job literally depends on it.
