Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph is being sued following [a deadly crash](https://www.pennlive.com/sports/2025/06/ex-dallas-cowboys-cornerback-arrested-after-crash-kills-27-year-old-woman.html) he was involved in earlier this month.
In early June, Joseph was arrested after he allegedly crashed into a motorcycle and left 27-year-old Cody Morris, a mother of two, dead.
The father of one of her children has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Kelvin Joseph, as well as two Dallas clubs, [according to Fox 4 in Dallas](https://www.fox4news.com/news/dallas-cowboys-kelvin-joseph-deadly-crash-lawsuit?taid=685b2e1f92d5720001626bf5&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter).
The news station reports that the lawsuit claims gross negligence by Joseph, as well as a bar and strip club in the Dallas area.
According to the lawsuit, Joseph was aware of the risks involved with driving while intoxicated and the places where he was allegedly drinking -- The Lodge and The Dive on 75 -- violated Texas law by continuing to give him drinks while he was intoxicated.
Fox 4 reports that the plaintiff is seeking over $10 million “for pain and mental anguish, medical care, funeral and burial expenses and other damages on behalf of Morris’ daughter.”
Early in the morning of June 7, Kelvin Joseph allegedly left the scene of the accident after the crash, before calling the Plano Police Department less than an hour later and admitting to being involved in the wreck that killed Cody Morris.
Police reportedly “observed signs of intoxication” when speaking with Joseph. He was arrested and charged with DWI and collision involving personal injury or death.
Fox 4 reports that according to an arrest warrant affidavit, Joseph drove for three miles after the crash, before pulling into a gas station in Plano. He then reportedly told police that he was driving his BMW sedan when a motorcycle driver “cut him off.”
Joseph reportedly failed multiple field sobriety tests before being arrested. There was allegedly a smoked marijuana blunt found in his car, Fox 4 reports.
Joseph played only two seasons for the Cowboys after being picked in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was then traded to the Dolphins. Over the past two years he also spent time with the Seahawks, Chiefs, Colts and Vikings. He was currently playing for the DC Defenders of the UFL.
