Newcastle United avoid disastrous deal as Fabrizio Romano confirms staggering £51m clause -…

Newcastle United have suffered plenty of transfer setbacks this summer, but not every deal they have missed out on should be seen as a negative.

Bryan Mbeumo is going to cost Manchester United more than £60million, which vindicates Newcastle United’s decision to walk away from the 25-year-old attacker.

In terms of centre-backs, Newcastle impressed Dean Huijsen with their pitch, but they never stood a chance when Real Madrid decided they would activate his £50million release clause.

Liverpool include Jarell Quansah transfer clause after Newcastle United interest

Another centre-back who Newcastle United wanted was Jarell Quansah, but he is on his way to Bayer Leverkusen.

Newcastle thought they could sign Quansah for £30million. However, he is taking his talents to the Bundesliga for a fee in that region.

It could represent a missed opportunity for the Magpies, but a clause in the deal sums up exactly why Eddie Howe should be happy to miss out on the 22-year-old.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have a buyback option for Quansah that is worth £51million and becomes active in 2027.

It won’t be available in 2026, only from 2027 as agreed between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen.

Jarell Quansah deal would have been bad business from Newcastle United

At around £30million, Quansah would have been a good signing for Newcastle United. He has a lot of potential, while he is also fairly experienced despite being quite young.

However, that price would probably only have been available had the Magpies agreed to a buyback clause. In turn, Newcastle would have been developing Liverpool’s player with the fear of losing him.

Sure, there would have been a PSR boost for Newcastle, but that would force them to restart their centre-back search.

And if Newcastle did not agree to the buyback clause, they probably would have had to pay even more money for Quansah. Then he would not have represented value for money.

It is an excellent bit of business by Liverpool, while Newcastle United should be delighted they missed out.
