Birmingham City are in the hunt for some new signings this summer
Birmingham City are in the hunt for some new signings this summer. They have the chance to bring in reinforcements over the next couple of months. The Blues also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door if needed.
Chris Davies was picked as their manager 12 months ago. He guided the Midlands outfit to the League One title at the first time of asking. They went up along with 2nd place Wrexham and play-off winners Charlton Athletic in the end.
Birmingham City handed Louie Barry transfer opportunity
In this latest update regarding his situation, Football Insider claim Villa may need to sell him permanently to abide by PSR. That means that his price tag could be reduced in order to secure a fast sale. The deadline is next week so his future at Villa Park is up in the air.
Barry, 22, joined Aston Villa having previously been at West Brom and Barcelona. He was loaned out to the likes of Ipswich Town, MK Dons, Swindon Town and Salford City but struggled to make an impact. The forward then linked up with Stockport County and really found his feet at Edgeley Park.
He ended up staying a year-and-a-half in the North West before he was recalled this past winter. Hull then came calling but his time in East Yorkshire didn’t go to plan. He picked up a knee injury early on in his stint with the Tigers and that ruled him out on a long-term basis.
Will Birmingham City sign Louie Barry?
Time will tell whether Birmingham lodge an offer for Barry. His availability will surely alert their hierarchy and they have a decision to make now. If they did secure his services, he would give them more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch.
The Blues are well stocked up with options on the wing. However, if they were able to get him for reasonable value, it is likely to be something they will consider. Barry was handed a new deal by Aston Villa before leaving for Hull.
After joining the Tigers, he said: “I’m really excited. I had a good start to the season and, hopefully, I can end it really well. I’ve got a lot of goals in my mind that I want to achieve here. I spoke to the gaffer and he said all the right things. I watched the Sheffield United game and that was a big turning point for me because everything the gaffer said was spot on and came to fruition.
“I just want to get out there now. I haven’t played for about a month and I’m chomping at the bit to get out and hopefully score a few goals. I started the season off by scoring goals and creating chances, and I want to end it the same way. I’m hungry, probably hungrier than ever, and I’ve got that point to prove in the Championship. I’ve never played in the Championship, so it’s my time to go out there and show people what I can do.”
