“I’m told...” - Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s hearing about Rodrygo to Arsenal

Arsenal fans have been given an update on their bid to sign Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo by journalist Fabrizio Romano, as their summer spending aims to continue - with the Brazilian's decision on his future being the only reason that talks haven't developed between the two clubs.

Rodrygo had been linked with Arsenal earlier in the summer after falling behind Arda Guler in the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu, especially struggling for game time with Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr taking the left-wing and central spots. Premier League clubs, including the Gunners, have registered their interest in his services and Rodrygo could be on the move this summer.

As a result, a deal has been looked into for the Brazilian, according to Romano, who has named the wideman as Mikel Arteta's 'dream target' with Nico Williams looking to be 'impossible' to reach this summer.

But any deal won't go ahead until Rodrygo lets new boss Xabi Alonso know of his next move, which he hasn't yet - and that means the situation has not changed, despite the Gunners remaining keen on a deal. He told his YouTube channel. Romano said:

"I'm told that the situation has not changed as of today. So first point, Arsenal love Rodrygo. When I say Arsenal, it's about the management, it's about the coach, Mikel Arteta.

"They consider Rodrygo as a fantastic player, a dream target as a winger, also because they believe that Nico Williams is impossible to reach this summer.

"So for Rodrygo, he remains a strong name for sure in the list at Arsenal. But at the moment, as I always told you, the only way to make the Rodrygo deal happen and to start thinking about the financials, the salary, the transfer fee and all the rest, is Rodrygo himself.

"The only way is if Rodrygo goes to Xabi Alonso and tells him at some point now - in one week, in two weeks - 'I want to leave the club'.

"So is Rodrygo deciding? If he decides to go to Arsenal, the doors of this deal to negotiate could be open, but in this moment, Rodrygo still didn't tell anything to Xabi Alonso.

"So about leaving the club, about leaving Real Madrid, and Real Madrid will not inform Arsenal on any fixed price until they don't have any communication from Rodrygo."

Rodrygo would come in as an upgrade for compatriot Gabriel Martinelli, who has floundered at times this season, and that would see Arsenal's new-look attack - alongside a potential new striker - transformed as Arteta aims to win the Premier League.

But Real Madrid may not administer a sale as they aim to keep the bulk of their squad after missing out on both La Liga and the Champions League last season.
