Marcus Rashford reportedly wants a move to join Barcelona this summer, but it is unclear yet whether the Spanish side will make a concrete move for him.

Rashford is perhaps the most intriguing, as he has made it clear that he would prioritise a move to La Liga giants Barcelona after returning from his loan spell at Aston Villa. They had the opportunity to exercise the £40m option to buy him, but decided against it. It was also understood that Rashford wanted a move elsewhere.

The England international hasn’t been linked to many other destinations other than Barcelona, with only Inter Milan showing an interest. It now becomes a question of whether the La Liga giants really want him. Especially considering that they are keen to sign a different winger target.

Barcelona keen on Marcus Rashford despite Nico Williams priority

Williams has a £48m release clause, so he won’t be too much of a pricey option for Barcelona. However, with the club’s financials in a precarious position, they won’t want to spend too much elsewhere if they can avoid it.

With that in mind, would they still sign Rashford from Man United? According to a report by the Guardian, Barcelona are still keen on the England international, despite the fact that Williams is their “number one target”. The report says that manager Hansi Flick believes that Rashford’s presence would enhance their forward line due to his skill and versatility.

However, it is understood that they are only prepared to sign Rashford on loan, much like Aston Villa did.

Would a loan deal benefit Manchester United?

The whole premise of United selling these players is that they want to generate more transfer funds, and a loan deal wouldn’t provide that, not at least for this summer. However, Rashford is one of the Red Devils’ highest-paid players.

It is understood that the 27-year-old is on a wage of around £370,000 per week, and so if he did leave on loan for Barcelona, United would potentially request that the Spanish side pay a significant cut of his wages just so that United get some form of financial benefit from the move.
