Everton Women are set to have multiple big changes this summer ahead of the WSL season.

It was recently announced that Goodison Park will become the home of Everton Women going forward, instead of knocking the ground down.

On top of this, CEO Alan McTavish also left the Toffees earlier this year as The Friedkin Group aim to push the squad up the WSL table.

After an eighth-place finish last season, many are hoping that the recent changes could see Everton become a force next season. However, it could get worse before it gets better.

Sara Holmgaard joins Real Madrid from Everton

Last week, it was announced that Sara Holmgaard would be leaving Everton upon the expiry of her contract.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

The 26-year-old regularly featured for the Toffees since she joined the Merseyside club in 2022 alongside her twin sister.

Last season, she registered seven goal contributions from left-back as the defender nailed down a spot in the first team.

Holmgaard was an important player for Everton last season

Now, Real Madrid have announced on their official website (25 June) that they have signed Holmgaard on a free transfer from Everton.

The Spanish giants have tied the left-back down on a two-year deal, where she will be hoping to end Barcelona’s dominance.

Now, she is preparing for the 2025 European Championships with Denmark before she returns to Spain for the upcoming season.

Everton suffer another loss this summer

Despite the hype going into the summer transfer window, Everton have done little in the market.

The loss of Holmgaard will be huge, and the Toffees had to do more to convince her to stay.

If Everton are not careful, they will run the risk of the women’s team going backwards next season if they do not replace the Dane.

New signings should be easier this summer, especially with players having the opportunity to play at Goodison Park on a regular basis.

Hopefully, additions will be quickly made to ensure the squad is prepared for the new season.
