After a successful Championship campaign, Sunderland secured their slot in the Premier League, returning to the top flight for the first time in eight years.
The Black Cats ended the 2016/17 Premier League season at the bottom of the table, only to do the same a year later in the Championship earning them back-to-back relegations.
Unfortunately for Sunderland it took four seasons to book a promotion through the play-offs, which has also been their qualification route this season, having not won a trophy since lifting the Championship title in 2007.
The newly promoted side are now preparing for the Premier League, however have already felt a huge loss with the sale of Jobe Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund for £26 million.
Now, the club are looking to sign some serious talent in their hope to avoid relegation, looking to one of Manchester United’s goalkeeping targets to secure their defence.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Sunderland are now looking to OGC Nice’s Marcin Bulka, who United have been looking to as a replacement to Andre Onana.
The Black Cats are reportedly in active talks with Nice over a potential move, giving them the edge on United who already have a major obstacle in their way.
As INEOS own Nice as well as part owning Manchester United, UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) launched proceedings under their multi-club model rules.
As such, the two clubs are prohibited from transferring between each other until after the investigation is over in September 2025, unless a deal was already in place prior to the investigation.
This ruling means that United are unable to make a move for Marcin Bulka until the very end of the summer transfer window if they still look to sign the goalkeeper.
This set back for The Red Devils has left the door open for Sunderland to open up talks and look to sign the talented Polish international.
Thankfully for United, Sunderland’s pursuit of Bulka wouldn’t be a major set back, with the Poland international being lower down on their shortlist of replacements for Onana, with Emiliano Martinez still the firm favourite.
