Man United are looking to strengthen in midfield this summer as they are expecting to see some outgoings.
One area that will need improvement is in midfield. Last season, the Red Devils lacked both creativity, and solidity in the middle of the park, which was one of the reasons why they struggled. However, they could see a departure.
Man United and Everton want Wilfred Ndidi
One name that United could decide to replace Casemiro with is Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, who is likely to leave the Foxes after they were relegated from the Premier League, with former Man United interim Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
According to talkSPORT, United are interested in Ndidi alongside Premier League rivals Everton. Both sides were reportedly keen on him last summer when he was set to be a free agent, but instead the 28-year-old signed a new contract with Leicester.
The report says that the Nigerian is available for a cut-price this summer, as he has a £9 million release clause in his contract. It also states that Ndidi is on the radar of several Saudi Pro League clubs too, but with the opportunity to play for a big Premier League team such as Man United, Ndidi would surely be tempted to come to Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old is very highly regarded by his teammates and coaches, a player who is arguably underappreciated. Former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers was quoted in the Leicester Mercury, describing him as “irreplaceable”. He even said that he was “one of the top players in world football” during his time with the Foxes.
Ndidi would replace Casemiro well, as he is a defensive midfielder, who likes to play a physical brand of football. He is also no stranger to a goal from the outside of the box. Last season, the Nigerian international made 30 appearances for Leicester, scoring one goal and providing five assists.
Man United also want Bayern Munich midfielder
The former Fulham midfielder is potentially available for a loan move away from Bayern Munich this summer after failing to get a regular run in the side last season under Vincent Kompany.
Palhinha made 24 appearances last season for Vincent Kompany’s side, and United reportedly want to bring in the midfielder, as their interest in the Munich man spans back to Palhinha’s time at Fulham, between 2022 and 2024. After his successful spell with Marco Silva’s side, Bayern paid £48m to sign him, and there is now a chance that he could see a return to the Premier League, by moving to Old Trafford.
