Pre-Draft work done, Nebraska's Brice Williams awaits work on next step in career

Over the next couple days, Nebraska guard Brice Williams will get more information about the next step in his basketball career.

The first round of the NBA Draft starts on Wednesday evening, followed by the second round on Thursday evening.

Williams went through double-digit pre-draft workouts with NBA programs in recent weeks and will see if his name is called in the second round.

Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg said Wednesday that he texted Williams on Wednesday congratulating him on completing the pre-Draft process.

"As I told him, 'Listen, whatever happens in the next couple of days, you put yourself in a great position for your future,'" Hoiberg said.

Williams was a reliable scorer in his two seasons with the Big Red. He earned first-team All-Big Ten honors from coaches and media during his senior season and helped lead Nebraska to an NCAA Tournament berth two years ago.

Last year, Williams averaged 20.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, as he finished second in the Big Ten and 13th nationally in scoring. He totaled 20 games with at least 20 points in 2024-25, including four games with at least 30 points, as his 20 games with 20+ points were one off the school record.

On NBA Draft lists, Williams is ranked in a spot where he'd potentially be a late second-round pick. ESPN ranks Williams No. 68 on its Top 100 big board of potential prospects. CBSSports has Williams as its No. 71 overall player and No. 16 shooting guard available in this year's draft.

"Williams was a proverbial "bucket" as a sixth-year senior at Nebraska and shot 38.5% from 3-point range over his college career," CBSSports wrote of Williams. "Whether he sticks in the league will depend on his athleticism and defense, both of which are just suspect enough to keep him from rising higher in the pre-draft rankings."

Nebraska has had three players selected in the NBA Draft since 2019 — Isaiah Roby in the second round of that year by the Dallas Mavericks, Dalano Banton in the second round of the 2021 Draft by the Toronto Raptors and Bryce McGowens in the second round of the 2022 Draft by the Hornets. Banton and McGowens are now together with the Portland Trail Blazers, while Roby played in Europe most recently before injuring a knee.

Whatever happens this week, Hoiberg said he's appreciative of what Williams did for the program in his two years in Lincoln.

"Obviously we're going to miss Brice a ton for everything he did … leading scorer in the conference," Hoiberg said. "A guy that made a lot of plays down the stretch and was very clutch for us."
