It’s officially NBA trade season, and the Sacramento Kings have been active too, even if they’ve yet to strike a deal. Yet, that could soon be changing as the 2025 NBA Draft tips off later tonight.
According to team insider [Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee](https://www.sacbee.com/sports/nba/sacramento-kings/article309359225.html), the Kings are “expected to explore” the trade market for a pair of All-Stars – DeMar DeRozan and possibly even Domantas Sabonis.
> “The Kings are expected to explore trades for DeMar DeRozan, a six-time All-Star who averaged 22.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists this season while shooting 47.7% from the field and 32.8% from 3-point range. DeRozan has two years and $50.5 million remaining on the three-year contract he signed with Sacramento last summer. He is owed $24.8 million next season and $25.7 million in 2026-27. Sacramento could also test the market for Domantas Sabonis.”

A potential DeRozan trade makes sense for a team that couldn’t make the playoffs last year, considering he’s already set to turn 36 in August. Yet, Anderson also casually mentions the possibility of a Sabonis trade too, which would be far more surprising.
However, the Kings could simply be ready to hit the reset button after bouncing back and forth between contention and being on the fringe of landing a top pick. If so, gauging the trade market for Sabonis, a three-time All-Star who’s already 29 years old, could make a lot of sense for Sacramento.
Sabonis still has three years remaining on his contract, which could appeal to other teams hoping to secure a star for multiple seasons. Set to have a cap hit of $42.3 million in 2025, the Kings will have to find a deal that can set them up better for the long-term future, which isn’t always easy when trading a player of his caliber.
