he Jacksonville Jaguars continue to finalize agreements with their rookie class. A couple of days after signing two-way star Travis Hunter to a two-way deal, the franchise announced that it came to terms with rookie running back, Bhayshul Tuten, on a rookie contract, making his status with the team in 2025 official.

A fourth round pick out of Virginia Tech, Tuten was highly touted by the Jaguars, taken with the expectation that he would be an immediate contributor as a rookie. Despite the team already having guys such as Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby, Tuten provides the Jaguars with a new layer at running back, as Tuten’s ability to shed tackles and find running lanes caught the team’s attention almost immediately.

What Tuten Brings to Jacksonville

Since joining the team, head coach Liam Coen has raved about his young star, believing that his style of play will fit in very well with Coen’s offensive scheme.

“If you look at Tuten with the ability to strike from a distance. He can get to the second or third level and score from anywhere on the field,” Coen said after the team drafted Tuten. “I think behind the line of scrimmage, forced missed tackles were through the roof for him in terms of getting back or at least getting yards after that contact behind the line of scrimmage.”

In 24 games at Virginia Tech, Tuten ran for 2,022 yards and 25 touchdowns, earning Second-team All-ACC honors in both 2023 and 2024. The featured back for the Hokies for most of his career, Tuten proved that he has what it takes to be the guy and if Jacksonville needs him, he will be ready to take on the challenge.

The Jaguars Current Running Back Depth Chart

The early depth chart for the Jaguars has Tuten listed as the No. 3 running back, behind Etienne and Bigbsy but ahead of fellow rookie, LeQuint Allen. But the team still expects him to play some sort of role in his first season. Known for his speed, pass catching skills and kick returning ability, Tuten will more than likely contribute in one of those departments, providing both a lethal special teamer and another offensive weapon for quarterback, Trevor Lawrence.

But after last season, the Jaguars will be open to anything. Shining his first two seasons, Etienne took a considerable step back last season and eventually started to share more carries with Bigbsy. Etienne’s future has been put into question over various points this offseason, heating up even more when he missed OTAs. Bigsby also started to have a little bit of a fumbling problem throughout last season, something that he will need to work on if he wants to remain the clear-cut starter.
