It’s a busy time in the association as the league prepares for the 2025 NBA Draft, set to take place tonight at 8 p.m. ET. One of the teams that has been busy is the San Antonio Spurs, who boast the No. 2 overall pick.
While Cooper Flagg is widely expected to be selected first overall by the Dallas Mavericks, guard Dylan Harper is projected to be the second pick. Though, the Spurs already have two star guards in De’Aaron Fox and reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle. Is there space for Harper too?
According to Yahoo Sports’ NBA insider Kevin O’Connor, the Spurs could potentially move on from Fox, Castle, or even the No. 2 pick.
“The Spurs probably don’t trade for De’Aaron Fox if you know you’re going to end up with Dylan Harper… it’s just a matter of what path do they take and when do they shake things up in that backcourt.”
Kevin O’Connor on San Antonio Spurs’ plans
While there’s no guarantee that Harper becomes a star in the NBA, he’s still expected to make an immediate contribution for whichever team he joins. The Spurs may feel like they don’t have enough minutes available in their guard rotation, which could prompt a trade. Still, having too many talented contributors isn’t a bad problem to have, and now the Spurs could be set to benefit from their situation.
