The New York Knicks are still looking to fill its head coaching vacancy, and the organization is now interviewing a New Orleans Pelicans assistant for the gig.

On Wednesday night, two hours before the 2025 NBA Draft, a report came out that the Knicks have reached out to the Pelicans for permission to interview assistant coach James Borrego about the job. Borrego has been with the Pelicans for the past two seasons after getting fired from the Charlotte Hornets in 2022. As Charlotte's head coach, Borrego had a 138-163 record. Charlotte saw 10-win improvements from the season prior in his time at the helm, and the team's season ended in the play-in the final two years of his stint.

The Hornets have not been to the play-in tournament since.

The Knicks are still reportedly interviewing various candidates after firing Tom Thibodeau. Thibodeau led the franchise to its first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000 this past season.

The New York Knicks are planning to interview New Orleans Pelicans associate coach James Borrego for their open head coaching job, sources tell ESPN. Borrego joins Mike Brown, Taylor Jenkins and Micah Nori as known formal interviews for the Knicks.
