The Spurs have had the past two NBA Rookies of the Year in Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle. The former Rutgers guard has a chance of becoming the third in a row. His skill level separated him from the rest of the 2025 NBA Draft class (with the exception of Cooper Flagg), making himself one of the more promising NBA prospects in recent memory.
Harper is the son Ron Harper, a five-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. Dylan Harper has similar size to his father at 6-foot-6, 215-pounds, which he uses to his advantage as a point guard. In his one season at Rutgers Harper averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1.4 steals.
The bigger guard is highly regarded due to his shot-creating and ball handling ability for his size. Harper wasn’t the most efficient as a freshman, but NBA scouts saw enough to believe that there was a strong chance he’d become an NBA All Star one day.
Harper will pair with Castle and fellow lefty guard De’Aaron Fox as San Antonio’s future backcourt to go along with the uber-talented Wembanyama. The Spurs’ future was bright before Wednesday night, and Harper’s arrival brings it to another level.
