Dylan Harper said all the right things after being drafted by the Spurs

The Spurs did what they were expected to and drafted Dylan Harper second overall. The former Rutgers star seemed thrilled to hear his name called and ecstatic about landing with the Spurs in his first interview.

His father Ron, who had been vocal about where he wanted his son to land, seemed to be fine with being a part of the Silver and Black family. Don’t be surprised to see him around San Antonio a lot.

Soon after the selection, the welcoming messages started to pour in. First, a franchise legend sent his regards. It’s unlikely 19-year-old Harper watched a lot of Manu’s game, but he surely knows what the four-time NBA champion means for the organization.

Then the franchise star himself took the time to welcome his new running mate.

Even the broadcast team, which will get to call plenty of Harper highlights, chimed in.

Meanwhile, the social media team made sure to get everybody hyped about the Spurs’ new guard with a highlights video.

If that wasn’t enough to get fans on board with the pick, watching Harper excitedly sign his first autograph probably did the trick. It seems like the Spurs are getting a humble guy.

In his first press conference, he made sure to point out that he’s looking forward to playing with Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox, so it doesn’t seem he’s worried about the logjam at guard.

He’s also understandably thrilled about playing with Wemby, as he told Taylor Rooks in an interview that provides some insight into how Harper looks at his strengths and weaknesses and what his goals are.

Harper said all the right things, which was great to see from such a high-profile and somewhat controversial pick. Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, he’ll be wearing No. 2.
