Newcastle United transfer window predicted - Anthony Elanga alternative, £40m deal, four exits

Newcastle United have seen a bid turned down by Nottingham Forest for Anthony Elanga.

The transfer window has now been open for a few weeks with clubs working to build their squads ahead of the new 2025/26 season.

So far, it has been a frustrating one for , with the club yet to see any progress in terms of recruitment. Getting deals at a price that the club deem is value for money along with ongoing PSR concerns have hampered the club.

For , he will want new additions to the squad as the club prepare for a return of football at next season. While there has so far been no new additions, there is still plenty time left in the window.

But what will have happened once the window is closed? We’ve got our crystal ball out and made just some predictions for the next few weeks.

Anthony Elanga alternative

Newcastle have seen a bid for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga as they look to add to their squad. A bid of £45million was instantly rejected by City Ground officials, with Forest looking for a fee of £60million if they are to sell.

The clubs remain in active talks and a second bid could be made, but Newcastle could walk away if they don’t feel like they’re getting value.

I think this might be the case and the club will move onto an alternative target. One who has been named is Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.

The 23-year-old scored 12 times in 36 appearances in all competitions in the season just gone, while providing a further nine assists. Transfermarkt values him at €45million (£38.4m), and if that is anything to go by, Newcastle should be able to sign him for less than what they offered Forest for Elanga.

That may just cause Newcastle to move on from trying to negotiate with Forest if they continue to play hard ball over a fee.

James Trafford move

Another player Newcastle have been trying to sign so far this summer is Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. But, unlike the Elanga deal, I think this is one that they will get done.

Talks between the two clubs remain active with them feeling that there is a deal to be done for the 22-year-old this summer. Burnley with him a key part of their promotion back to the Premier League in the season just gone.

Burnley have however reached an agreement with German club Karlsruher for goalkeeper Max Weiss. Bridging in a potential replacement for Stafford could possibly mean that Burnley are more likley to listen to offers for Trafford.

Alexander Isak stance

There has unsurprisingly been a lot of talk over interest in Alexander Isak with Liverpool the latest team to be linked. However, I predict that Newcastle’s determination to keep the striker will pay off.

A price tag of £150million will put Liverpool off, with the club already having spent £116million on Florian Wirtz this summer. In another boost to Newcastle, I think that contract talks will progress and Isak will agree a new deal, but it may not be sealed until after the transfer window.

I think they’ll also be a similar outcome with Anthony Gordon, despite interest, he will remain at St James’ Park beyond this summer.

Four exits

In terms of exits, I can see all of Sean Longstaff, Matt Targett, Joe Willock and Martin Dubravka leaving the club either on permanent or loan deals before the end of the window. Permanent exits would be preferred with the money coming in being a boost to the transfer funds available.
