Newcastle United saw a £45million bid rejected for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga earlier this week.
Nottingham Forest have reportedly begun negotiations with Juventus for winger Timothy Weah.
Newcastle United will be paying close attention given their interest in Tricky Trees talisman Anthony Elanga. The Athletic reported earlier this week that Toon chiefs saw a fresh approach - worth around £45million - rejected for the Swede.
A deadline-day approach was turned down last summer before Elanga went on to star as Forest secured European football. The 23-year-old registered 17 Premier League goal contributions as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side finished seventh - earning a Conference League spot.
It is thought that Forest are holding out for at least £60million - a figure just shy of Newcastle’s club-record signing Alexander Isak. That could lower if the Tricky Trees find a replacement - with Italian media suggesting a possible move for USA international Weah.
Nottingham Forest want George Weah
Son of legendary African footballer George, the winger is available for a cut-price £12million. Gianluca Di Marzio claims talks have started for the 25-year-old, who made 30 Serie A appearances last season.
Weah is currently on duty at the Club World Cup where he featured in the 5-0 win against Abu Dhabi outfit Al-Ain. The Juve star - who has 44 caps for the USA - can also operate at right-back.
Newcastle United ready alternatives
Newcastle have been left bemused by Forest’s hefty valuation for Elanga. The Tricky Trees paid Manchester United £15million two years ago but he has gone on to become an established Premier League.
Johan Bakayoko, Karim Adeyemi and Mohammed Kudus have been touted as potential Newcastle alternatives. The Magpies are yet to sign a first-team winger since the Saudi-backed takeover in October 2021.

Anthony Elanga on Nottingham Forest future
Elanga opened up about his future while speaking to Swedish media earlier this month. He said: “There is a lot of talk. I focus on what I can do and my focus today was on the match. In football, there are always rumours. The most important thing is that I focus on what I can control.
“I guess there will always be scouts wherever I play. As long as I stay focused and do my best in the match, I just keep my focus and what I can control. That's what I can do on and off the field. I focus on the next day and action. That's what I can do.”
