Liverpool have been linked with a big-money move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak in recent weeks.
Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to break their wage structure to keep Alexander Isak at St James’ Park.
As it stands, the Magpies are comfortable regarding the Swede’s situation despite ongoing speculation. Isak has three years remaining on the deal he signed following his club-record £63million move from Real Sociedad three years ago.
There is also no release clause - putting Toon chiefs in a strong negotiating position. Liverpool are the club that have been linked with a possible move in recent weeks after signing Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.
Newcastle open to Alexander Isak contract
The Times report that Newcastle would consider shattering their current structure to tie Isak down beyond 2028. Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon have since overtaken him on the wage bill following their contract extensions.
The likes of Kieran Trippier and Sandro Tonali also earn more than Isak despite him netting 27 goals across all competitions last season. Newcastle’s wage bill is the eighth highest in the Premier League - below Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
Potential new arrivals this summer could change that but the door remains open for Isak to pen fresh terms. PIF - governed by Toon chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan - do not wish to sell the striker.
Newcastle hope Champions League qualification and winning silverware can persuade Isak to commit his long-term future. However, while the Swede would become the club’s highest-paid player ever, the report highlights the Magpies being unable to offer the same terms as Liverpool.
Alexander Isak on Newcastle United future
Isak insisted he “loves” Newcastle when speaking to Swedish media earlier this year. He said: “There’s not much to say, really. I’ve commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times.
“It’s been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feel there. I’m not thinking about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle. Now we won the cup, but we want to finish strong and reach the Champions League games. That’s where my focus lies.”

Darren Eales answers Alexander Isak question
Toon CEO Darren Easles previously fired back at “crazy” suggestions Newcastle would consider selling Isak. He told reporters in March: “We’re not under the gun to sell any of our key players. It would be crazy to consider it. They’re all under long-term contracts.
“We know he’s a world‑class player and others covet him. But it’s annoying because it’s almost as if we’re seen as a club in the next category down and it’s fair game to talk about our players leaving.”
