Man Utd are looking at signing Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United are looking to bolster their attack this summer as they hope to add a striker to the signing of Matheus Cunha and the possible arrival of Bryan Mbeumo.

Fabrizio Romano gives update on Man Utd and Viktor Gyokeres

In an update on the striker’s situation, transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel that Gyokeres is giving priority to a potential move to Arsenal. However, he has insisted the Sweden international has not rejected United but rather prefers a move to club with Champions League football.

He said: “Viktor Gyokeres remains a priority, and his priority remains Arsenal. He wants to go to Arsenal, he wants to play Champions League football for Arsenal.

"He never rejected Manchester United, but he told Manchester United that his priority would be Arsenal, so let’s follow that situation."

United are not able to offer any of their transfer targets European football next season after finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur back in May. The Red Devils have still be able to attract some top stars, however, and a move for Gyokeres cannot be completely ruled out as Arsenal are interested in other strikers, such as RB Leipzig ace Benjamin Sesko.

Ruben Amorim has already given his thoughts on player’s rejected Man Utd

Speaking last season before United missed out on Champions League football, United boss Amorim said: "I haven't spoken to Gyökeres but if a player only wants to come to Man United to play in the Champions League then he won't come.

"We want players who want to represent United. We don't want players who only want to play in certain competitions.

"Of course we want to be in the Champions League. It could change a lot of things at the club this summer. It won't save our season but winning a trophy can be huge."

While missing out on the Champions League is a blow to United financially and in terms of wanting to sign some of their top targets, Amorim has already outlined how it could be a benefit next term.

He said previously: "I have to say that for us not to be in the Champions League could be an advantage to perform well, to perform better, to prepare better [for] the games.

"To build that core that we need for the future so I think it's a good thing for us to take advantage not to have European games."
