Anthony Elanga is high on Newcastle United's wish-list but Nottingham Forest are set to play hardball

Newcastle United could see an improved offer for Anthony Elanga knocked back by Nottingham Forest.
The City Ground side have made it clear that they don't have any interest in selling one of their best players with a suggestion that even a second bid of over £45m may not be sufficient to land the Sweden winger. Having previously indicated to Newcastle that they weren't interested in moving on the right-sided star, Chronicle Live understands that Forest were surprised to get a cash bid for the ex-Man United youngster.
The message coming out of Forest last night was that Elanga's status remains "not for sale" with the club under no pressure to sell him. After previously experiencing PSR issues, Forest don't need to move any players on if they don't want to and Nuno Espirito Santo has Elanga on his "core player" list.
Nuno said at the end of last season: "Anthony is a special boy and he gives this team his speed. He does it by himself and we are delighted."
Elanga, who would see Man United take a portion of sale via a sell on clause, stated he was happy at Forest last season and said: "I appreciate Manchester United so much because I learnt a lot there. I took another step to come here (to Forest) and I have learnt a different type of football here as well.
"All you want to do is to keep on improving and I feel like coming here is about playing and developing every day. I know I’m not the finished article - I can always improve in every single area."
