Liverpool are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, with a new striker and central defender top of their list of priorities

Arne Slot has had a busy summer

With 67 days remaining until the summer transfer window shuts on 1 September, Liverpool seem to be making early moves.

The Reds have snapped up Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, and have also secured Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. But they're not stopping there, with a raft of deals – both incoming and outgoing – expected in the weeks and months ahead.

Arne Slot has tasked sporting director Richard Hughes with scouting a new striker and a central defender, as planned exits of Darwin Nunez and Jarell Quansah will leave gaps in his title-winning squad.

Fortunately, Liverpool have a healthy bank balance after some restrained transfer windows recently. However, more sales are required, and departures will be as common as arrivals in the coming days.

Like Arsenal and several other top European clubs, Liverpool have their eyes on Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who netted 27 goals last season, solidifying his reputation as one of the best in the game.

The snag is that Isak's contract with Newcastle runs until June 2028 and he's valued at between £150million and £200million by his club.

Newcastle plan to offer the 25-year-old a new contract to further strengthen their position and are prepared to shatter their existing wage structure to increase his current £150,000-a-week deal.

The silver lining is that Liverpool are in a more robust financial position and could potentially offer Isak a better deal, should they choose to.

Piers Morgan is fuming after spotting reports that Liverpool have thrown their hat into the ring for Viktor Gyokeres, joining Arsenal in the chase.

The report from Portuguese source Correio da Manha suggests Liverpool are eyeing Gyokeres as a possible replacement for Nunez, who's agreed to sign with Napoli.

The club are reportedly prepared to negotiate a price for Gyokeres, with Sporting demanding a hefty €80m (£68.1m) for the goal-scoring machine. However, TNT Sports has claimed that Liverpool aren't keen on Gyokeres - hinting that the Portuguese reports might be off the mark.

Liverpool are keen to bring in a central defender this summer, with Quansah heading off to Bayer Leverkusen in a £35m deal – and they've reportedly pinpointed Ajax defender Jorrel Hato as an alternative to Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi.

The Reds have previously had their sights set on Leny Yoro and Dean Huijsen, but they ended up signing for Manchester United and Real Madrid respectively. Now, it's the 19-year-old Hato who's causing a stir among the scouts.

Despite his tender years, Hato has already clocked up over 100 senior appearances for Ajax, proving his versatility by playing both centre-back and left-back. Interestingly, he's revealed that he was advised to emulate Virgil van Dijk's style of play during his time at Ajax's academy.
