Birmingham City are heading up to the Championship, and with ambitions of climbing towards the top tiers of English football, they’ll be setting their sights high this summer. BCFC is expected to target several key signings to support that vision.
Many believe the current Blues squad is already capable of competing well in the second tier. However, Tom Wagner, Chris Davies, and other influential figures at St. Andrew’s have no intention of standing still.

As a result, a wide range of players have already been linked with moves to the League One record-breakers. Now they look set to secure the services of the highly sought-after Tommy Doyle, according to Football League World.
Premier League Sunderland and also Wrexham had been keen on signing Doyle. However, Birmingham City appear to have won the race and will be signing Doyle on an initial loan deal with an option-to-buy.
Doyle is liked by Wolves supporters and many feel he is good enough to play in the Premier League. Wolves boss Vitor Pereira does not see a way to fit hi into his style of play though so he is free to leave this summer.
Promotion on his CV
Doyle has been a fairly consistent player in the Premier League with Wolves over the past two years. The last time he played at Championship level though, he secured a promotion with Sheffield United.
He had a fine campaign with the Blades and was a key part of not only their 2nd place finish but also their excellent FA Cup run. He scored three goals and provided four assists from midfield in 33 Championship games with Sheffield United.

Birmingham City will be hoping that he can bring that experience to their side next season. They have many talented midfielders in their squad but not many with Championship experience.
Not here to make up the numbers
Birmingham City are being linked with some massive names for the Championship. Signing Doyle could just be the start of the a string of high-profile signings.
Academy graduate Demarai Gray is also closing in on a return to St Andrews. He has reportedly turned down a number of Premier League offers to join BCFC.

Despite being promoted just last year, Birmingham are going to be in the mix for a top six spot next year. More signing’s like this though, could leave the top six as the expectation this season.
