According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Hornets have traded Mark Williams to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for No. 29 pick Liam McNeeley and a 2029 first-round pick.
Williams is entering the final year of his four-year rookie contract, after which he’ll become a restricted free agent.
The 22-year-old center averaged 15.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game last season—his third in the league—after being selected No. 15 overall by Charlotte in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Williams was also involved in a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers at last season’s trade deadline. The deal was initially completed just before the deadline but was later rescinded.
As part of the trade, Charlotte is also acquiring guard Vasilije Micic, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks. Micic was dealt to Phoenix in February as part of the Jusuf Nurkic trade. Phoenix is expected to exercise his $8.1 million team option.
