Aston Villa’s Enzo Barrenechea is among the ‘favourites’ to replace Real Betis’ Johnny Cardoso this summer, according to El Desmarque.
Atlético Madrid have made advances over a move for Cardoso for around €30m and his possible exit has seen Real Betis look for his successor.
The Aston Villa player is one of the ‘main options’ for the Andalusian club and there seems to be consensus within the club over the possibility of signing him.
El Desmarque state the 24-year-old’s name is ‘high on the list’ of Real Betis and he’s one of favourites to replace the American. They add the Spanish club’s ‘interest is not new’, but they aren’t the only club keen on signing him.
Barrenechea joined the Villans from Juventus in July of last year and they let him spend last season on loan at Valencia. He enjoyed a successful spell with Los Ches and is reportedly keen on returning to the Mestalla this summer.
Aston Villa director Monchi has confirmed “many clubs” want the Argentine and that Unai Emery will make a decision on his future.
According to El Desmarque, the Premier League club are open to offers and could sell him for €10m.
