Leeds United can finally sign long-term target from Premier League club, thanks to Ao Tanaka's pal - journalist

The search for new players continues after Leeds United confirmed the arrival of Jaka Bijol from Udinese on Monday evening, and there is every chance the next addition could be a Tottenham player.

However, it is unlikely to be Manor Solomon. The Israel star has been on loan at Leeds for the past 12 months but that loan will officially come to an end on Monday, and he will return to parent club Spurs.

Solomon has informed Tottenham he wants a second bite at the cherry in London, with new manager Thomas Frank now in place. Frank wants to take a look at Solomon before making a decision on him.

However, there is another Tottenham player that Daniel Farke would love to sign this summer. Especially, as he may have thought the player in question would be unavailable in this summer’s transfer window.

Alasdair Gold talks up possible Leeds move for Ben Davies

Ben Davies has been regularly linked with Leeds over the past two years, since Farke’s arrival. The Welsh contingent at Leeds has grown under Farke, bringing in Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon alongside Dan James.

Charlie Crew and Karl Darlow have since become Wales internationals. Davies is a target for Leeds and has been for some time, but earlier this summer, Davies’ spell at Spurs was extended by a further season.

The clause in his contract was triggered and it meant he would no longer be a free agent this year. But, Football London’s Alasdair Gold told the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast that Davies could still go.

“There still may be another departure. Davies has had the extra year taken up on his contract, but I’m not entirely sure that guarantees he stays. I think that’s just the club protecting itself,” Gold proclaimed.

Why Ao Tanaka’s pal could be key to Leeds striking Davies deal

Spurs have just completed a move to sign highly-rated 20-year-old Kota Takai for £5m. A player that has come through the ranks at Ao Tanaka’s boyhood club Kawasaki Frontale, and made his Japan debut.

Two of Takai’s four Japan caps have come alongside Tanaka. Now, Gold thinks Takai’s arrival at Spurs may see Davies become more flexible and Leeds could take advantage – with Gold namedropping Leeds.

“There are the likes of Leeds who have been looking at him. And maybe the fact that Takai can play on the left of a back pairing kind of maybe frees him up to head off if a good move comes,” the reporter added.

Leeds certainly need a left-back and with Max Wober confirming Leeds have told him he will be sold, the need for cover at left-back and the left side of centre-back remains. Davies would sort out both positions.
