Crystal Palace'against the clock'over decision on Marc Guehi transfer amid Liverpool interest

Crystal Palace has been advised to offload Marc Guehi this summer by the club's former owner, with Liverpool keeping a close eye on the England international's situation as his contract nears its end.

Last summer, the Eagles turned down four offers from Newcastle United, the highest being £65 million ($89 million), and also rebuffed Tottenham Hotspur's attempts to secure the 24-year-old in January.

Liverpool is on the hunt for a new center-back after agreeing to Jarell Quansah's move to Bayer Leverkusen. While the Reds are primarily targeting a young defender with great potential, they are also considering Guehi due to his contractual circumstances.

The England international led the Eagles to FA Cup victory in May and, should he remain at Selhurst Park, will guide them into the Europa League this season.

It is claimed that Guehi would leap at the chance to transfer to Anfield if given the opportunity. It has also been suggested that the England international might be willing to see out his contract at Selhurst Park and then leave as a free agent next summer.

Similarly, Liverpool is closely monitoring his current situation at Palace, evaluating whether a bargain deal could be struck this summer or whether to revisit their interest in a year when Guehi will be available on a Bosman transfer.

Simon Jordan, former owner of Palace, has now encouraged the Eagles to sell Guehi this summer. He believes they have little hope of keeping the England international, especially with Liverpool showing interest.

"Isn't it the case with all clubs now that the challenge is that the bigger clubs, certainly the legacy clubs, so I don't think it's a poor reflection on Crystal Palace," he commented on TalkSPORT. " The fact is that Palace... it's a terrible thing that you have the vision and everyone else sees the vision when it arrives.

"So that's a wonderful thing and that's the downside of being involved in a business where people covet what you have... It's the order of events in football and you're not going to change it..

"When you're comparing it to Liverpool and iconic football clubs, it's not a fair comparison. Palace can take players from Leicester now because Leicester are in the Championship. Leicester won the Premier League 10 years ago. Does that mean Leicester are a less attractive club than Palace? It just means that at this moment in time, this club is more successful.

"If you compare the clubs on an equal footing and a player chooses to go to a club on an equal footing in the same space, then you start to say that the club has got a problem and it's not a very sexy club to be at.

"But when you're saying Liverpool, when Liverpool come knocking on your door as a top footballer, the Premier League champions, you go: 'I'll have a bit of that, thank you very much'.

"Sell him, unless you can tie him down - you're not going to tie him down, are you? (Keep him) and get nothing for him? That's the choice.

"Palace took the roll of the dice last year, didn't take Newcastle's money in so far as Newcastle really offered it and it was on the nail and all that sort of stuff.

"Now Palace is against the clock. So what do you get? You get nothing? And then you've got to go and buy a center-back. So you might as well sell him.

"(Oliver) Glasner won't be thrilled with that, unless you can tie him down, but he's not going to be tied down, is he?".
