David Ornstein clears up Alexander Isak nonsense – A brilliant reply to Liverpool claims

As the transfer window roars on, speculation still surrounds our star man Alexander Isak.

Despite the owners insisting he’s not for sale and the player showing no signs of wanting out, this has not stopped the likes of Liverpool and their fans from drumming up talk of him moving to Merseyside.

But renowned transfer journalist David Ornstein has now weighed in, and he’s provided some news that many Newcastle fans will be very glad to hear.

Despite reported growing interest from Liverpool, there seems to be no change in the club’s message regarding Alexander Isak: the striker is not for sale this summer.

Speaking on The Athletic’s YouTube channel, Ornstein has delved further into Isak’s current situation with the club, and just how little has changed since we rebuked Arsenal’s interest in the 25-year-old.

“The situation with Isak has been spoken about so much, and we don’t want to sort of inflame it at all: Newcastle have no intention of selling him whatsoever.”

And as been highlighted before, Isak is set to be the crown jewel in the current project, with Eddie Howe, Yasir Al-Rumayyan and more influential figures at the club adamant on keeping him by any means necessary.

“Their plan is to keep him, they would like to renew his contract. There’s no sign of a renewal at this point, but they’re in a strong position: they’ve got three years on his terms, he’s already being paid extremely well. I’m sure they’d be prepared to take that higher.”

“He’s the centre of this project that’s Saudi-led and ambitious. They’re heading back into the Champions League next season which gives him football at the top tier of European competition.”

It’s often noteworthy when a club like Arsenal and Liverpool usually come knocking, the desired player starts to openly seek the move to the ‘bigger’ club.

But this doesn’t look to be the case with Isak by any stretch of the imagination, which Ornstein notes:

“He does look to be happy. I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes, but all we do know is what we see, and he’s always got a smile on his face and he’s always excelling when he’s fit.”

It has been stressed enough that it would take one club offering at least a Premier League record fee for the Toon to even come to the negotiating table, with Ornstein calling the much-quoted £150m asking price “eye-watering money”.

Ornstein doesn’t play down the idea that, with some outgoings, Liverpool could be tempted to field a bid for Isak, but it would likely take both ourselves and our No.14 to publicly change our stance on selling him.

“You can imagine Liverpool trying…it doesn’t mean they’ll succeed. But they’ve got a lot of work at their place to facilitate spend of that level.”

“I would be shocked if any club was able to do that, in terms of his suitors, without shipping out some players to create the financial space. Not just on the transfer fee, but the salary.”
