Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Brentford captain and Danish international Christian Nørgaard for a fee of ₤10 million plus add-ons.
The 31 year old was also a target for Tottenham, and a reunion with former manager Thomas Frank. Instead he has opted to join the red and white half of North London.
Although the move came out of the blue for most Gunners’ supporters, and may not be the big name they had hoped for, they have acquired a player who is Premier League ready, having joined Brentford from Fiorentina in 2019.
And they have also found a ready-made replacement for the experience of Jorginho and Thomas Partey, both of whom have left the club and are shortly to do so.
The deal is subject to him passing a medical, but assuming there are no issues with that, he will be available for his new club in time for pre-season, which will begin with an impromptu training camp in Spain.
