'A real chance': Journalist makes new claim about Harvey Elliott's Liverpool future as he stars for England U21s

Harvey Elliott has been in fine form for England’s Under-21s in their World Cup run, with the midfielder netting both of England’s goals as they beat Netherlands Under-21s 2-1 on Wednesday.

The attacking midfielder wasn’t given all that much playing time by Arne Slot throughout the 2024-25 season, with the Dutchman preferring the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones over the youngster.

This has sparked rumours around the former Fulham man’s future, with multiple clubs such as Brighton and Wolves both touted to be interested in a move for Elliott this summer.

In fact, Vitor Pereira even sees the Englishman as a perfect replacement for Matheus Cunha, who chose to exit the Molineux for Manchester United at the start of the summer transfer window.

And, while the future of Elliott hasn’t been decided upon yet, it seems like the youngster has already accepted where his future lies.

David Lynch admits there’s now a ‘real chance’ of Harvey Elliott leaving Liverpool this summer

There’s no denying that Elliott is an exceptional talent with plenty going for him.

The midfielder was Jurgen Klopp’s star boy, and while he hasn’t been given much of a chance to prove his worth to Slot, there’s still a more than capable Premier League player in there, with Joe Cole even comparing him to Phil Foden.

However, while speaking to the Sports Mole YouTube Channel, journalist David Lynch gave an insight into what lies ahead for Elliott.

“There are spots opening up [in Liverpool’s midfield], obviously Harvey Elliott, there’s a real chance he goes,” he said.

“I think he seems to be more accepting of that idea; it looks like a spot is going to open up there.”

Liverpool need to include a buy-back clause for Harvey Elliott if he’s sold

As the arrival of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen has now been finalised, it feels likely that Elliott will exit Anfield this summer.

The German plays in the Englishman’s favoured position, and even though Elliott can be used on the right wing, with Jeremie Frimpong now also a part of the Reds’ ranks, it feels like he’s been pushed further down the pecking order there, too.

Thanks to his performances for England at the Under-21s World Cup, it feels likely that his price tag has been boosted even higher as he’s once again proven that he can hold his own when it counts.

Liverpool look set to sell a fair few members of their first-team squad this summer, but seeing as though Elliott has a bright future ahead of him, it feels silly for Liverpool not to insert a buy-back clause into the deal.

Richard Hughes has already managed to do that with Jarell Quansah, and without that clause, it feels like the Reds would be silly to get rid of him.

Of course, only time will tell what the future has in store, but in the grand scheme of things, the best thing for both parties seems to be Elliott moving on.
