David Ornstein shares what he’s heard from Alexander Isak’s ‘point of view’ about Newcastle and …

Newcastle United star Alexander Isak is reportedly subject to interest from Premier League champions Liverpool, and David Ornstein has provided the latest.

It is a rumour that is likely to last throughout the summer, and one which will barely get off the ground by the deadline in September. Liverpool are reportedly interested in Alexander Isak.

Newcastle United have already made their stance clear on the 25-year-old: they are not willing to sell him. Even if he were available this summer, it would take a gargantuan fee to sign him, one that would be approaching the world record transfer fee of around £200m.

Club chairman Yasir Al-Rummayan has urged Newcastle not to sell Isak because he is his favourite player, but also because he recognises the money he brings in commercially and the success he has helped Eddie Howe achieve over the last two seasons.

Newcastle’s owners will be pleased with their imminent return to the Champions League next season, but they will also be aware that the Magpies would struggle to compete in the competition without him.

Liverpool have not held talks for Isak, and David Ornstein has now shared the latest he has heard about the links. It is good news for Newcastle.

Alexander Isak should be happy at Newcastle United says David Ornstein

After scoring a sensational 23 Premier League goals last season, it comes as no surprise that the Premier League Champions are interested in him, but fans and club officials alike have made it clear that they expect him to be on Tyneside for the 2025/26 campaign.

Geordie Boot Boys were told that Newcastle are willing to break their wage structure for Isak’s new contract. His proposed new deal looks like it would be significantly more than the £160,000-a-week Bruno Guimaraes earns as Newcastle’s current highest earner.

Ornstein has now shared more good news about Isak and Liverpool’s chances of signing him, effectively putting any chance of him leaving to bed.

On the Athletic FC podcast, Ornstein said: “Newcastle have no intention of selling Isak whatsoever, and want to renew his contract. They’re in a strong position with over three years remaining on his current deal, as part of which he is already paid well. They’ll have no problem offering more, too – he’s at the centre of that ambitious Saudi-led project.”

“From the player’s point of view, he has top-level football secured with Newcastle’s qualification for next season’s Champions League, and he won the club their first trophy in a long time. He looks to be happy – always with a smile on his face,” he added.

“It could take around £150m just to start a conversation – there’s no suggestion of any developments despite recent rumours and reports. Liverpool may try, but that doesn’t mean they’ll succeed…”

Newcastle United would have a hard time replacing Alexander Isak

If he were to sign for Liverpool, Newcastle would have an incredibly healthy transfer budget to spend, but they would face the hard task of replacing one of the world’s best strikers.

It is a difficult situation for the Magpies, but they appear to be sticking to their morals to make sure he stays at the club. At times, Isak has been compared to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. The striker has a similar build and mirrors his fluid dribbling style and spectacular finishing.

With the Champions League coming back to Newcastle next season, Howe will be eager to ensure he has the best players possible to be competitive in the competition, which includes Isak.

At 25 years old, many Newcastle fans believe that the best is yet to come from the Sweden international who has already shown so much quality since signing in 2022. Consecutive 20-goal seasons in the Premier League is something no other Newcastle player has ever done; it will be extremely difficult to find someone who could do that if he were to leave.

Isak will likely stay at Newcastle next season, but many fans hope he will be a part of the club for many years.
