Newcastle United are preparing to offer Alexander Isak a new contract that would make him the highest-paid player in club history, according to The Times’ Martin Hardy.
Isak, who scored 23 Premier League goals this season, is drawing increased interest from top European clubs. Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona are all monitoring the 25-year-old, but Newcastle intend to keep him and are planning a contract proposal exceeding £150,000 per week.
“Newcastle United are prepared to make Alexander Isak the best-paid player in the club’s history and fight off any approach for their star striker,” Hardy reported.
Isak has three years remaining on the deal he signed when joining from Real Sociedad for £63 million in 2022. He has scored 62 goals in all competitions since arriving at St James’ Park.
Isak finished the season second in Premier League goals, behind only Mohamed Salah (29), and also scored in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final win against Liverpool in March.
Despite reports that Liverpool are not actively pursuing a new central striker, Hardy noted that the club “have the funds to test Newcastle’s resolve,” even after spending £200 million this summer, including a British-record deal for Florian Wirtz.
So far, Isak has shown no indication he wants to leave.
“Isak has not yet given any indication he wants a move,” Harvey reported, saying Newcastle believe their qualification for the Champions League will help convince him to stay.
While Newcastle remain constrained by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, the club’s owners—the Saudi Public Investment Fund—have no intention of selling. Eddie Howe also wants to retain the player he helped turn into one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.
