Newcastle United 'eye' German midfielder as Garnacho circulated to Premier League rivals

Newcastle United are yet to make a breakthrough in the transfer market as other clubs try to clear the decks

Alejandro Garnacho's name has been circulated by Manchester United to Premier League and La Liga clubs after his price tag was slashed to £45million.

Garnacho, who has form for his social media activity, has now pushed the Red Devils too far after being pictured wearing an Aston Villa shirt. The 20-year-old Argentina international has appeared on the back of some of the red tops in recent days, donning a Marcus Rashford shirt.

The attacking midfielder can play wide on the right or the left, but whether Newcastle United would take a gamble on such a troublesome player is up for debate. Garnacho's wages would not be an issue and may be one of the reasons why he is unhappy at Old Trafford given he is one of the lowest paid stars.

The aftermath of Newcastle's rejected bid for Anthony Elanga resulted in the return of talk about the long-standing target in Johan Bakayoko.

The 22-year-old has been scouted by head of recruitment Steve Nickson and is understood to be available for £20m this summer. The Cherries have already held talks through intermediaries with Andoni Iraola a fan of his talents.

But the sway of the Champions League could be a massive advantage for Newcastle if they decide to go down this particular route. The 22-year-old is ambitious and has just one year left on his contract so this could be the ideal time to strike for Eddie Howe.

German reports conjure up new Toon link

In a summer that has been dominated by talk of goalkeepers and right wingers, German publication Bild have served up a new link in the last 24 hours. Freiburg's Merlin Rohl has been suggested as a possible target for the Magpies in his home country.

The attacking midfielder would have his work cut out to get into Newcastle's midfield. However, he can also operate as a second striker, which could appeal to Howe.

At 6ft 3in he could be an uncompromising figure in Howe's side and with midfield exits possible for Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff, Rohl could fit the bill on Tyneside.
