Abut this time every year, you can start to feel it in the (exceedingly humid Houston) air. The NBA playoffs are over, the Astros are headed toward the All Star break, and our thirst for football is beginning to mount, and we know that Houston Texans training camp is just a few weeks away.
The anticipation gets hit with an exclamation point when the team reveals the dates that fans can attend camp. This happened on Wednesday morning, as the Texans told everyone on social media that "[they're] going camping!":

Here are the things you need to know:
Training camp starts later this year than last year
Last season, thanks to Andre Johnson going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Texans were selected to play in the Hall of Fame exhibition game, which is an extra preseason game that's played on induction weekend in early August. Thus, they began training camp around July 15. Thankfully, they are back on a normal schedule this season, but if it feels like camp is starting a little later, it's likely because you still have 2024 on the brain.
The Texans have seven practices open to the public
The practice dates are listed in the tweet above, as well as the practice schedule summary in this article. Longtime Texan fans know that tickets to the open practices are indeed free. However, unlike a few years ago, when the Texans were the dregs of the league, these have become VERY popular tickets over the last few years. All fans will have the opportunity to claim free tickets to practices beginning Thursday, June 26 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.com. There will be a limited number of tickets available per day. (Season Ticket Members likely received an email with further details on their registration.)
They will be returning to West Virginia, this time for a weekBacking 2017 and 2018, the Texans left Houston, for the first time in team history, to conduct training camp, hunkering down at the Greenbrier resort in rural West Virginia for three weeks. This time, it will only be for a week of practice leading up to the preseason opener in Minnesota. It's a good chance for the players to get away, build camaraderie, and, if nothing else, cool off. It gets down into the 50s at night in West Virginia. I will be covering this portion of camp in person, and will have daily updates here.
There will be two joint practices, one here and one in DetroitDeMeco Ryans loves getting out of town for training camp, and he loves practicing with other teams. It gets old banging heads with the same 300 pound men every day, so why not bang heads with your opponent for that week's preseason game, right? So the Texans will host a joint practice (open to the public) on August 14 with the Carolina Panthers, and will travel to Detroit for a joint practice with the Lions. These are usually the best days to attend, if you're a fan, as the practices can get intense.
