Wolves interest in 110-goal target confirmed but transfer hangs on one thing, 'links will…

The main mission for Wolves this summer is to try and replace Matheus Cunha’s incredible final third output.

Cunha completed his long-awaited Manchester United transfer at the start of June after scoring an impressive 17 goals for Wolves during the 2024/25 campaign.

Wolves have since signed Fer Lopez for £19.5 million, but the Celta Vigo prodigy – who has made just 20 senior appearances – isn’t a direct replacement for the Brazilian.

Vitor Pereira is still in the market for at least one more number 10, targeting a player who can perhaps conjure up moments of brilliance in attack.

Wolves links to Corinthians forward Yuri Alberto ‘will continue’

Wolves have a long-standing interest in Yuri Alberto, who Pereira worked with during his time managing Corinthians.

The Brazilian centre-forward has garnered attention from numerous Premier League clubs after scoring 110 goals across his career, but those teams were dealt a blow when it was claimed Alberto wanted to stay at Corinthians.

However, even with Alberto suffering a fracture to his vertebrae that could keep him out until August, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has confirmed to Molineux News that the ‘links will continue’ with the 24-year-old.

Bailey has also claimed that the talented centre-forward would be ‘very expensive’, even despite reports suggesting Alberto would cost £17 million this summer.

It remains to be seen whether Wolves can persuade the Corinthians marksman to Molineux, with their pursuit of the striker depending on who Pereira can get rid of first.

Why Alberto would be perfect for Wolves

Alberto’s campaign was cut short by injury, but if they’re willing to show patience, he could be the perfect replacement for Cunha.

Similarly to the Manchester United forward, Alberto is excellent at dropping deep and linking up with his teammates while also showcasing his ruthless finishing in and around the box.

The Brazilian has converted 21% of his chances in 2025 while outperforming his xG of 0.99, which demonstrates his efficiency in the final third.

Also, the fact that Pereira has worked with Alberto is another reason why he could be the ideal successor to Cunha; it’s just whether they’re willing to throw everything at signing someone who is currently injured.
