Liverpool urged to sell Ibrahima Konate this summer. The defender is entering the final year of his contract without signs of a renewal.
Contract Drama Sparks Transfer Talk
Liverpool fans might be feeling a familiar tension as Ibrahima Konate becomes the latest big name to approach the final year of his contract.
The club has resolved the futures of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk last season. The Reds now face another crucial decision. There’s no guarantee Konate will commit long-term. Former player Glen Johnson believes it’s time for them to take action. He suggests either cash in now or risk losing him for free later.
Konate said numerous times not to believe what the media says about his contract. ❌

Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on him. Talks of a £25m offer is on the table. Although, the Reds value him closer to £40m. They have already seen Trent Alexander-Arnold leave recently in similar manner.
Now, the club might prefer to act early this time around. Selling now could help avoid repeating the pattern of losing key players on the cheap or even for free.
Guehi Lined Up as Possible Replacement for Konate
With Konate’s future in doubt, Liverpool is reportedly considering Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as a replacement. Guehi is also in the final year of his contract. Palace may be prepared to sell rather than let him leave for nothing. He has been a reliable performer in the Premier League and will provide great value to the Reds.
But just signing one for another is probably not quite enough. Meanwhile, young centre-back Jarell Quansah is also close to leaving for Bayer Leverkusen. That creates a mini-crisis in defence if there were likely more exits.
So, that’s why any offer for Konate must be seriously considered. It will allow Arne Slot to rework his defence with players committed for the long-term. Liverpool’s transfer window may be about more than just buying. Now, it’s about making key decisions before time runs out.
