Bayern Munich are considering a surprise move to sign Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli as they aim to strengthen on the left-hand side.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 24-year-old is on a long list of targets for the German champions.
After missing out on signing Florian Wirtz, Vincent Kompany’s side are assessing alternative options out wide, and have set their sights on the Premier League.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider last month that Arsenal are prepared to accept offers for Martinelli as Mikel Arteta eyes an overhaul of his attacking options.
A lack of depth out wide means the Gunners are keen to strengthen this summer regardless of Martinelli’s future, but believe they can upgrade on him.
Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider on 22 June that Bayern want to sign Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma amid rival interest from Arsenal.

Bayern Munich eye Gabriel Martinelli after Arsenal decision
Bayern are determined to land a new wide forward this summer after missing out on Wirtz, and are also believed to be targeting Eberechi Eze and Cody Gakpo.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted Martinelli would be a good option for Kompany’s side and would be interested in the move.
“Arsenal are willing to let Martinelli go,” he told Football Insider.
“They’ve made the decision that he doesn’t fit the bill consistently enough for them.
“They’ve weighed everything up, they know he can come into the team and does something brilliant, but then he’ll revert back to struggling to make an impact.
“It’s a difficult one, but it’s a decision they’ve made because they think they can improve on him.
“Arsenal are prepared to let him go if any club is willing to make a decent offer for him.
“Bayern Munich are one club I’ve been told have looked at him, and I think we’ve said before they want to strengthen out wide after losing some players.
“From his point of view, going to Germany would allow him to thrive and show what he can do.
“Playing for a dominant team against weaker opposition might help him find that consistency.
“He would be a good option for them with his pace, and it takes him out of the pressure of the Premier League and especially playing for Arsenal.
“As we’ve said, Bayern are looking at a few players in that position, and he is one of them.”

Christian Norgaard update emerges at the Emirates
While there has been plenty of talk surrounding outgoing players at the Emirates this summer, they are also aiming to bolster their squad.
Brown told Football Insider on 23 June that Arsenal are advancing towards signing Christian Norgaard from Brentford to add to their midfield options.
Arteta is aiming to bolster his midfield options in the transfer window while adding further leadership and experience to his squad.
Football Insider revealed in April that Thomas Partey and Jorginho will leave Arsenal upon the expiry of their contracts, and both are in line to be replaced.
