Kerkez completes move to Liverpool from the Cherries

As reported, the two clubs agreed a deal for the left back after negotiations, and Kerkez was booked in for a medical with the Reds on Tuesday.

The Hungarian becomes the fifth most expensive left back in the world.

AFC Bournemouth have already signed Kerkez’s replacement in Adrien Truffert from Rennes, having also signed 20-year-old Julio Soler from Lanus in January.

Kerkez started every single game for Bournemouth in the Premier League last season, scoring twice against Wolves and Newcastle and notching six assists.

He made three appearances in the FA Cup for a total of 41 in a Cherries shirt in a record-breaking campaign.

Liverpool are not the only side looking to challenge for the league title to have bolstered their left back ranks this summer, with Man City bringing in Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves for a reported £31.8m with potential £5.2 million in add-ons.

Kerkez becomes the third player to leave the Cherries this summer and the second to depart on a permanent move.

Daniel Jebbison joined Preston North End on loan over the weekend, after Dean Huijsen joined Real Madrid after the conclusion of the season.

There has been some contrast between the way in which Huijsen and Kerkez have handled their moves, with the young Spaniard’s move to Madrid completed with two games left to play of the season.

Huijsen completed his move but was fully focused on Bournemouth for the matches against Manchester City and Leicester, signing off with a classy message on the pitch after the final whistle.

Kerkez, though, has recently appeared on a Serbian Liverpool supporters’ group’s live stream on social media, and posed with the group’s flag.

But Kerkez has now joined the Anfield side, and he could face his former club on the opening day of the season as Liverpool host Andoni Iraola’s Cherries on Friday, August 15.
