South Carolina forward Collin Murray-Boyles was selected ninth overall in the 2025 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. He looked upset in the immediate moments that followed.
Videos of his supposedly angry reaction quickly went viral on social media. He appeared disappointed with his landing spot despite his Top 10 status.

Murray-Boyles is the first ever South Carolina Gamecock to be taken as a lottery pick. He’s the third-highest draft pick in school history. As a sophomore, he averaged 16.8 points and 8.3 boards a night to earn Second-Team All-SEC honors.
His production caught the eye of the Raptors. They will pay him handsomely to play in Toronto – whether he likes it or not!
A narrative of his unhappiness about heading across the border into Canada quickly followed his NBA Draft reaction. He took a moment to clear the air on the situation after the fact.

“WTF, for sure,” he said of his reaction. “It was crazy. I almost shed a tear, but I tried to keep my composure. It’s surreal.”
He later provided further comment, clearing up any false narratives floating around the internet.
“Disbelief,” CMB said. “Toronto was probably the first team that I worked out for. What I said was not a bad thing by any means. I’m very thankful for it. That was like a surreal moment to hear my name called… It was just a crazy moment.”
The Raptors did their part to clear the air, too. They were happy to get their guy. They wanted followers to know that the feeling was mutual.
The team posted a lighthearted clip of the reaction on social media after seeing the response go viral. A caption read, “See guys, he’s happy!!”

Collin Murray-Boyles will soon suit up for the Toronto Raptors. He already knows what he plans to do upon arriving to Canada.
“I’ve got my passport in my bookbag,” he joked. “First thing I got to do when I get to Toronto is post on my Instagram story, put a Drake song in there, and @ him.”
