Everton need €20m to tempt club after January transfer offer was rejected

Everton will need to make an offer of at least €20m if they are to tempt Freiburg into selling Merlin Röhl this summer.

That’s according to BILD, who report that Everton already saw a bid rejected in the January transfer window for the 22-year-old. A report earlier this week stated that they had made two bids in January.

BILD pick up on that today and explain that the midfielder’s strong performances for Germany at the U21 European Championships have increased interest in him. Germany are set to take on England in the final after knocking out France on Wednesday.

They explain that several Premier League teams were already interested in January. Everton, though, were the only ones to make an offer. That was rejected.

At the moment there are no concrete enquiries, but Freiburg believe the transfer window is ‘dormant’ abroad and that can change. They’re expecting offers to arrive at some point.

They would like to keep the youngster, who extended his contract in 2024, for another year. But they know that Röhl has the talent to play for a top club. An offer of at least €20m would tempt them into a sale.

Whether Everton are willing to offer that, remains to be seen. But they had a bid rejected in January and Freiburg are certainly expecting more to arrive at some point.
