What Man Utd ace told Ruben Amorim shows exactly where he stands on future, he is 'desperate' for one thing

Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim has held “talks” with Kobbie Mainoo over the Manchester United and England star’s future at Old Trafford, according to reports.

Kobbie Mainoo broke into the Manchester United first team under former Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag and was a standout performer in the 2023-24 campaign.

The 20-year-old United youth academy product established himself as a key midfield influence under Erik ten Hag before the Dutchman was sacked last October.

Mainoo has since retained a place in the first team under Ruben Amorim, but the Stockport-born player’s influence waned last season amid an injury-hit campaign.

The United midfielder managed 37 appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 season and Mainoo netted twice and registered one assist for his side.

Mainoo has been a favourite among United fans since his emergence, but question marks have been raised about his future at Old Trafford and his role in Amorim’s tactical system.

Kobbie Mainoo’s current position regarding his Man Utd future after his season under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford

Kobbie Mainoo is under contract with Manchester United until 2027 and the England international’s long-term future at Old Trafford has been shrouded in mystery.

Chelsea have been linked with Mainoo in recent months, but it is believed that the Red Devils want the England star to commit his future to Old Trafford.

Mainoo reportedly earns around £20,000 per week in wages at United and the Three Lions midfielder is believed to be asking for around £180,000-a-week wages in a new deal.

According to GiveMeSport, the Red Devils are confident that Mainoo can bounce back from his injury-hit campaign and return to form this summer at United.

The publication added that Mainoo is ‘desperate to succeed in his current surroundings’ and wants to prove ‘his doubters wrong’ by staying at Old Trafford.

What happened in the Man Utd talks between Ruben Amorim and England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo?

GiveMeSport reports that both Ruben Amorim and Mainoo ‘held positive talks’ over the player’s future after the end of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

The outlet claimed that Mainoo is ‘motivated to break into the forefront’ of Amorim’s project at Old Trafford and is not keen to seek a move away from Old Trafford.

Mainoo is ‘aiming to prove’ his importance to the 40-year-old United manager and wants to be one of his ‘first-choice’ picks for the central midfield in Amorim’s system.

The England and United star is keen to play in central midfield rather than being ‘rotated in an advanced role’ under Amorim next season.
