Liverpool's Harvey Elliott was the hero for England Under-21s as he set the team up for a Euros final. But his future at his club is still unclear as the talented youngster faces an uphill battle to dislodge some of his peers.
And some fans in the ECHO comments section say that he is more than good enough to be kept around as other clubs display interest during the summer transfer window.
Elliott made his first Liverpool appearance back in the 2019/20 season and became a regular sight for a couple of years before finding opportunities harder to come by during Arne Slot's successful pursuit of silverware during his first term in charge.
His undoubted talent was on full display as the Young Lions confirmed their place in the final as the team seeks to defend their U21 Euros title, scoring twice to drag them over the line against the Dutch.
Analysing the international game for Channel 4, Jermain Defoe said: "We said it before, he's too good to not be playing. When you're producing in big tournaments like this against the best players, the two goals that we saw this evening, he's a top, top player.
"For him, he just needs to go out and play, get himself in a team where he's one of the main players, and just go out and express yourself and show how good you are because this performance tonight, it's amazing."
Other clubs displaying interest in Elliott include Wolves and Brighton, but some reckon he still has a part to play here - if he can be convinced of that. Reader Still Worried says: "Don’t sell Elliott, he’s an asset not a liability. Fantastic workhorse and goalscorer, as he has just proved in the U21s. BIG mistake to sell a player like him."
Bigron5 writes: "Harvey is far too good not to be given more game time. Personally I'd prefer him to stay as he loves the club, but it's his career he has to think about."
KopKommando says: "With Elliott, it's hard because of Salah. Salah needs all the playing time he can get to stand a chance for the personal accolades, like Golden Boot, Ballon D'or etc. I would say a guaranteed buy-back sale, for when Salah does retire or leave, is the best option for Harvey. He can go ply his trade, travel and develop his football and come home as a little monster, ready to make a fist of that challenge."
Drewdrew74 agrees: "If we were to sell Harvey, please include buy-back clause, like what [we] did with Quansah."
Silversong writes: "Harvey has been excellent playing on the right for England U21s, but let's be honest - the young man has no chance of regular football at Liverpool with Salah in situ for another two seasons, who hardly ever gets injured.
"Then you've got Frimpong and even Wirtz who can play there as well. It's a real shame because Harvey is talented and a Red through and through, but the reality is he will have to move on in order to play week in week out. Heard that Brighton are interested, or possibly a Bundesliga club (not Bayern) if he wants to go abroad. Good luck lad, gutted you never got a proper chance at your boyhood club but what can ya do."
Jimmys1casey thinks that Elliott could be part of the strategy even if Salah continues to dominate the proceedings: "Next season we should do with Salah what Bayern now do with Kane. Take him off when the games are won, rest him with weaker teams. Otherwise, there is a chance of another burnout come February, and a dip in form."
